I have lived in Forest Hall for the last 17 years.
I have been very active in the Springfield Community Association most of that time. Over the last 5 years I have been the Chair of the Management Board.
We are a real community hub for generations both old and young. We are run on volunteers with no directly paid staff.
I am also secretary of the Friends of Springfield Park. Our small park is a beautiful space to relax in whether taking the kids to the play area or walking the dog. My litter-picking helps keep it a little tidier!
I usually organise the delivery of free lunches, twice a year, to homes to show that Forest Hall people care about their neighbours and are kind.
From 2010-2014 I was a Councillor for the area. I enjoyed helping sort out all kinds of problems from pot-holes to dog-poo. Anti-social behaviour to housing issues. I helped start the move to achieve a Village Green next to the old. Fusilier Pub site when I blocked a previous Mayor’s attempt to sell it off for housing.
I have been a campaigner for better rights for workers having worked in Local Government in Middlesbrough for 27 years. I played a key role in winning Equal Pay for low-paid women workers in North Tyneside Council whilst working for a local law firm.
I believe very strongly in listening to the opinions and problems that people have. Whether Middlesbrough or North Tyneside Cs open to all residents to report on my work and listen to the local community.
My local campaign will centre on getting traffic lights for the Station Road and Springfield junction, together with much expanded over-flow car-parking for Forest Hall shops. Also, a light-controlled crossing for Palmersville Metro Station before anyone is killed by speeding traffic.
I want to see the community involved in creating safer routes to and from schools for walking and cycling. Particularly important is pavement improvements for the many people using wheel-chairs whether from Percy Hedley or other residents. The key, always, is listening and respecting other people’s opinions. I will always vote independently and not be told by any Party what is best for the people of Forest Hall.
