Having lived in North Shields for 13 years with my husband Mark, 3 grown up boys & Chester our dog, I am very passionate about our town. Earlier in the year I helped set up a group called “Creatives of North Shields” with fellow independent Cathy Davis. The group was set up to give our local community a voice where there hasn’t been one for a long time. We’ve been overwhelmed with the number of passionate local people coming to our monthly meetings & joining our Facebook page. The purpose of this non-partisan group is to enable everyone who lives or works in North Shields to have a voice & provide their input into the future direction of North Shields. I have also been supporting Earl John Charlton a North Shields resident who was homeless for 25 years & is now the subject of a documentary called “Someone’s Daughter, Someone’s Son” I have generated sponsorship from national businesses to help with the distribution of the film & have been focusing on ensuring every local MP & councillor is aware of this documentary. Our mission is to end homelessness – we should NOT have people living on the streets in the 21 st century.
I have worked with many people & companies within the creative space from events to online platforms. I am also the commercial Director of my husband’s business VREO Innovation which is an electronics engineering business based at Royal Quays business centre, having won start-up of the year previously with NT Business Awards. VREO make cameras & have sold to global brands like Nasa, Flir, Bosch across 19 countries.
I am standing in this 2024 local election as 1 of 8 Community Independents across North Tyneside who believe that it is time for residents voices to be listened to. I promise to invite you all to monthly meetings to hear your views so that we can challenge decisions being made about where we live. I will work with councillors from all other parties in yours and North Shield’s interests. But I will be an independent voice, not tied into national party politics. Like many other places in the UK the main political parties are being challenged by Independent councillors. It’s time we did this here, in North Shields. Please use your postal vote on April 16 th or ballot box vote on May 2 nd to elect me as that Independent voice.
“I’m very excited about the future of North Shields & all the great developments planned for the Cultural Quarter. I am incredibly excited to meet so many like-minded passionate people in the town I call home. However I’m not happy that so many decisions have been made locally without public consultation & have decided to stand independently as I don’t feel I can fully represent local peoples voices under the main political parties. Please contact me on karen@mostsensational.com if there is anything you’d like me to support you with.”
