My name is Rie (pronounced Reee, short for Anne-Marie) and I'm standing as an Independent because I want the community to become more included in decision making in the council.
I decided when I was six years old I wanted to live in Whitley Bay when my Dad brought me and my sister one sunny Sunday. It took me 20 years, but I made it, and I've been here for over 30 years now! I've seen it through its transformation and I love this town.
I'm a retired police officer, and I'm a business woman. I run a domestic abuse prevention community interest company. I work mostly with teenage girls and young women. I feel teenagers need a voice in what happens to them, and will advocate for services for the youth in our communities.
I believe in listening to what people want where they live. I disagree with decision making without consultation. I disagree with non-democratic practices that impact our lives.
I believe people have become disillusioned with the current regime and less inclined to vote because they think it will be the "same old, same old". I encourage you to register to vote and use it to make change, by supporting me and the other Independents.
If you use one of your votes to elect me, you'll be getting a person who does not have to tow the party line. Free of party politics, I'll be the true voice of the people in the community I live in.
